(iv) Referral - when a student does not pass an assessment component at the first attempt they may be offered the opportunity to re-sit the assessment or submit further work. A deferred assessment will be marked across the whole mark range, up to 100% and will normally be a fresh piece of work (F5). (iii) Deferral - an approved extension to the deadline date for an assessment, usually as approved by an EEC panel (Part I). They are a useful guide to the student to indicate the expected content or approach for an assessment.
